Rim Finishing

Rim finishing refers to the ability of a player to successfully score a shot around the basket. This can include layups, dunks, and other close-range shots. Rim finishing is important in basketball because it allows players to score points more efficiently and effectively, especially in high-pressure game situations. Good rim finishing skills require a combination of physical strength, agility, and technique, including footwork, timing, and body control.

Improving rim finishing skills can help players become more versatile and effective on the court, allowing them to score more points and contribute to their team's success.

Rim Finishing Techniques

Rim finishing refers to the various ways in which a player can score a basket by using the rim as a target or as a tool to aid in the shot. This video describes some examples of good rim finishing techniques.

The Mikan Drill

The Mikan drill is a basketball training exercise that involves players standing near the basket and alternating layups with each hand. It is named after basketball legend George Mikan, who used the drill to develop his skills as a youth. The drill helps players improve their footwork, hand-eye coordination, and finishing ability near the rim.

Backboard Rebound with Finish Drill

The backboard rebound with finish drill is a training exercise that involves shooting the ball at the backboard, grabbing the rebound, and finishing with a layup or dunk. The drill is designed to help players  develop their rebounding, finishing, and timing skills.
